Smelly Dishwashers - Follow Up |
|
In reference to the article about poor quality dishwashers realeasing some nasty smells, we have had a good response from readers, and are now determined to get to the bottom of the problem.
Some readers were stunned to find that Bosch were at teh forefront of the article, and had nto heard of this issue before. Bosch are now being contacted and we await their reply.
Other readers appear to have found solutions to the problem. Even if not ideal, these solutions at least work.
Apprantly the cause of the problem is through new energy saving measures by the dishwasher manufacturers. It used to be the case that dishes were dried until they were nice and crispy using the inbuilt heating element. Unfortunately this is a good way to guzzle electricity, and so to become 'A' rated in the energy efficiency ratings, this method for drying has mostly been stopped as standard.
The new method requires users to open the dishwasher door after the cycle is complete, to enable the dishes to dry. This is also meant to be more gentle on your dishes. The results of this is that the inside of the dishwasher remains fairly wet. If the door is kept shut, the inside will take a long time to dry, and start releasing some unpleasant odours as it does this.
So, the solution is, to open the door after each use, allowing the dishwasher to aerate and dry. Not the most practical solution, but apparantly that is what the user is expected to do. At least there is a genuine reason behind the problem - we should all try to be a little greener, so stick with it!
