Dishwasher Researchers Discover Strange Things |
|
A marketing company in America have undergone years of research to discover how to reach all potential markets. Through the years of this research, some bewildering stories have been uncovered. Most people tend to use their dishwasher for cleaning dishes - a crazy idea it would seem to hundreds of people with other ideas.
It was found that hundreds of people, mainly in the Hispanic community, were using their dishwashers for a wild array of things, washing dishes not being one of them.
Thuis phenomenon arises when these families move into a new home, and find a pre-installed dishwasher. For some reason dishwashers aren't so big in some communities, and so the dishwasher is simply used as another cupboard. Researchers have witnessed various boxes, food, tea towels, bins and all sorts of other bits and pieces being stored in the dishwasher. The most extreme case, was where the family cat had made the dishwasher it's new home! Everything was in there - bed, litter tray, food bowl. It doesn't sound like the most cosy place to live in the world, but each to their own. Clearly these families do not value standard kitchen appliances at all.
These discoveries have not come from traditional survey methods, but from living with and getting to know a variety of families who are representative of different markets. The company responsible for the research, Agua Marketing, take pride in being different - their employees get involved in the day to day life of the families - joining in with everything, from large celebrations to doing the washing up. This approach is deemed to be more successful in getting genuine results than the usual methods. The company believe fully in this new strategy of research - it certainly sounds thorough, if even the inside of dishwashers are being looked at.
And it appears to work - at least for making some unusual discoveries, if not for it's intended purpose!
